Flexidao Tracks the contract performance of Kimberly-Clark's PPA

Skyscrapers - Flexidao's partnership with Kimberly clark

Background & Goal

Kimberly-Clark (NYSE: KMB) is a global manufacturer of personal care and hygiene products, including trusted brands such as Huggies, Kleenex, Andrex, Pull-Ups, Scott, Kotex and WypAll.

They required support in managing the contractual performance of their Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in Scotland, United Kingdom, as well as overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle management of their REGO’s (the UK’s equivalent of Energy Attribute Certificates).

The Challenge

Kimberly-Clark wanted to verify that their PPA contract was performing as expected.

They focused on two key areas for evaluation. Firstly, ensuring accurate financial monitoring. Secondly, assessing their contract performance. Here, Kimberly-Clark sought to confirm production volumes and validate turbine outage reasons.

Kimberly-Clark also aimed to effectively manage the REGO’s associated with the PPA contract. This required maintaining a transparent chain of custody for use in their environmental reporting.

The Solution

Kimberly-Clark leverages our tool to effectively monitor the performance of their PPA contract. It provides the following capabilities:

  • Automating the collection and regular updates of critical data, enabling continuous tracking of financial, volumetric, and carbon KPIs.
  • Monitoring historical and projected financial performance of the PPA to report on financial outcomes.
  • Tracking turbine downtime to ensure compliance with availability guarantees and contractual performance clauses.
  • Collecting and periodically updating the status and balances of Kimberly-Clark’s REGO portfolio, while maintaining a detailed historical record for each certificate, along with its official documentation. This process involves:
    1. Performing the cancellations of certificates on behalf of Kimberly-Clark
    2. Standardizing and storing the certificates in the platform
    3. Tracking that the delivery of REGO’s meets contracted amounts
    4. Streamlining the reporting process and identifying shortfalls in certificates so Kimberly-Clark can inform suppliers.

Results

By partnering with Flexidao to monitor their PPA contract in Scotland, UK, Kimberly-Clark has adopted a proactive approach and gained valuable insights into the alignment between invoiced amounts and the actual energy received, ensuring optimal PPA contract performance.

The datasets Flexidao provide also allows for hourly matching of renewable generation with Kimberly-Clark’s electricity consumption, aiding in precise carbon-free energy energy reporting.
